St. Pat's Day is a cool day (Yeah, I'm Irish) and Chicago celebrates it pretty heavily and there was a HC show to match it. First off, Black Flag was much better than their July show (over--age) at the Metro. BF played some new material as well as some real old stuff. The under-age show turnout was ok (about 300) and some of the crowd was really responsive; skanking and singing. Once again, there were the "brain-less" out in force for both shows. Some guy tried to pick a fight with Henry and in the second show, some mental deficient grabbed the mike away from Henry and called BF "rock-stars" and "money grubbers"! What the fuck is wrong with some people, the scene doesn't need the idiots giving punk and the scene a bad name. Henry used the crowd to make a fool out of the guy in the 1st show; the idiot's answer for being stupid was, he was wasted.

Some quick advice for him and people like that fuck-up--don't do booze or drugs if you can't handle them and don't ruin shows for people who want to see them. 'Nuff said, see how simple it is!!

So; Black Flag are turning to a more metalish, slower style on some of their new stuff. The only problem with some of this stuff is that the songs go on forever or so it seems. The new metal stuff is pretty Intense and have renewed my interest in Black Flag again. The 1st set of BF was pretty good, the first 1/2 was great with tne second half being the longer, slower songs. Tons of slamming during this long set, which included; "Nervous Breakdown", "My Rules", "Fix Me", "American Waste" and encores of "Louie Louie" "Wasted" - kick ass and one other.

Minutemen were the band I wanted to see the most and they were no letdown. D. Boon (guitarist) was funny when he would pogo--during the second show both D. Boon and Mike took off their equipment and pogoed togethor. Minutemen are a good example of how the HC scene isn't dying, but rather extending and probing new areas without losing touch with the original idea of HC. "Reagan Played Disco" was a great song as was "Tension", "More Joy" and Van Halen's "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love", the latter two songs were accompanied by Dez on vocals during the first show. Minutemen definitely proved they are a strong, fun band with tons of potential.

Nig-Heist put on the show of the century. Nig-Heist are Mugger (lead singer and local LA crazy), a BF roadie in a wig on bass, Billy (BF's new drummer on guitar and Dez on Drums. Mugger came out to lead this Heavy Metal assault by confronting a table of two girls up on when they would give him some oral excitement, then launched into "My Love in Your Mouth", "Surfer Broad" and the soon to be AM hit, "I'm a Woman Driver". During this short, but excitin set. Mugger also proved he could be on the top of the heap in HM frontmen; he had some cool moves. To those who missed N-H, all I can say is YOU BLEW IT, MAN.
