Necros interview from Touch and Go 9 (summer of 1980)--this has gotta be the first Necros interview. I only corrected the worst of the grammatical atrocities.

...don't laugh when I tell you about this great band from Maumee, Ohio cuz what I say is the bottom line...these scrappy suckers are on their way up--that leaves old farts like myself to sit back and marvel, drool, and thoroughly enjoy myself when I see them live--conventionality is one that ain't in these boys vocabulary...they'll walk right into your house, eat your food, smash the records they dont like the looks of, and rape your little sister. But since the PAGANS ain't around some-one's gotta pick up the slack right? NECROS did some studio demos a while back that blew my shit away plain and simply, knocked me out of the chair like a good dose of Persian used to do to our very own R&R Bankrobber. I first witnessed NECROS at a dive coop in Ann Arbor last June where the local boys in blue forced a seriously abbreviated set with threats of noise fines and that kind of bullshit. They are all around 17 and manage to have light years more energy than any of the motor city slime like RETRO and THE MUTANTS (those are tough to spit out) who still believe intricacy and over-instrumentation to be the modern mode of musical communication. With songs like "Peer Pressure", "Race Riot", "Police Brutality", "Public High School", and "I Hate My School" the band surpasses fellow teen punkers Rhino 39 or any of the HB pinwads on plain ol fashioned rawness, and they are finally giving the midwest a tad of credibility and self respect although my choice of wording here is suspect for they obviously respect nothing but their record collections and the females who suck them into submission. Lead singer Barry idolizes Darby but has a style quite unlike Mr. Crash's, more young sounding, less pretentious, almost Kieth C.Jerk minus the throat slashing growl technique...Todd on drums is a killer with a simple barbaric style, and he's faster than fuck...guitarist Andy hates punk according to informed sources but if this is true he got some great ideas as to what style makes it in thepunkingdom. The following is an interview done with the 3 of them (they are currently auditioning bass players)

TV: How long have you been together?
A: We started out as a 3 piece with no guitar a year ago and Andy didn't have one at the time but Barry did and so we begged Andy to play guitar...we did songs like "Celibate Summer," "Blow Me Baby" and "Kill The Shah" we still do 2 of the real old songs "I Don't Like You" and "My Life"...
B: We've gone through four bass players, we've got a guy named Jeff Allsop sitting in for us at the moment...
A: About ten inches
TV: Who are your idols?
A: Boomer, Keith Partridge, Davey Jones, and Johnny Thunders...
T: I don't know really I suppose all of FEAR and Robo of BLACK FLAG...
B: Darby Crash
TV: How big are your wangs?
A: About a year
TV: Any opinions of Detroit bands?
B: Don't know really any good ones...the best ones are probably in garages, THE LIPS ARE BACK are from Battle Creek, they are far better than any Detroit bands like 27 or COLDCOCK...
T: There are no good ones from Detroit or Ann Arbor-The THWARTED are memorable only because they suck so bad...THE FIX sound really hardcore etc., real rice guys too. you forgot to ask me about the bands from that great suburb of Detroit, Windsor Ont. They have one good band THE SPYS (real original name huh?) and shitass Jerkoff bands like ALTERNATIVE, DRY HEAVES, SID (neat name) and one band I haven't heard THE HARDTOPS...
A: No...
TV: your demos are tits, how would you describe your sound?
B: Fast, loud, angry, unpracticed, thouroughly adolescent, fuck I ddn't wanna judge...
A: This is weird because our studio tape isn't us at all...it isn't really slick but the vocals are very clear, we're used to practicing on a ten watt Realistic PA, live we just try to keep it fast and not really stop between songs for very long, basically just blast thru the set as quick as possible...
A: It was done quickly and inexpensively, the engineer was more used to heavy metal...
TV: What do you hate?
A: I hate tomato soup made with water instead of milk, I hate girls who wear clothes, I hate diet Pepsi...
B: I hate a lot of people and a lot of stuff, like assholes that got into punk rock last week and think they're so hardcore. I hate it when people talk about punk in the past tense like punk was this and punk was that...I also hate "new wave" like B %@'s (Whoops sorry, ED.) B 52's and ROMANTICS and it pisses me off when people refer to music like that as punk...I also hate restraints like school and work, I guess they are necessary though..I could go on for hours...
TV: What's it like living in Ohio?
A: It's like living in Alaska. People are dumb and don't realize anything..fave spot in Ohio is Cedar Point...
T: Don't ask, it's a shithole. I think the world is boring.
B: It doesn't matter cuz I'm leaving when I graduate from high school...
TV: Tell the world about your fave recordings...
A: BLACK FLAG EP, NEGATIVE TREND EP, "Now your Dead" FEAR, GERMS LP, AVENGERS "We Are The One", Gigantor...any D.O.A. and MIDDLE CLASS...
B: I've got lots...I'm always buying records--alot of really fast LA bands like GERMS, FEAR, BLACK FLAG (Am I stuttering? ED.) CIRCLE JERKS, just the really loud garbage stuff. Then on the other hand I like the dark, stark moody stuff like JOY DIVISION, THE CURE AND MAGAZINE..oh ya I just got this great EP by DISCHARGE, this band from England. I've got extremist tastes...
A: I really like Gigantor and anything by the HEARTBREAKERS, D.O.A. ANd NO ALTERNATIVE are good too.
TV: FAVORITE ZINE?
T: Hmmm this is a tough one, let's see there's TALK TALK, NEW YORK ROCKER, hmmmmm, oh ya there's SLASH, FLIPSIDE, PA SMEGMA JOURNAL that one's ok, hmmm there's ZIG ZAG gosh I just can't remember. Oh ya that one from Lansing, I think that's pretty good, what is the name of it, that one's my favorite.
