7" released in 1985 on Forced Exposure (FE002), booted at least once since then
|
Rema Rema (the song) is a Rema Rema (the band) cover. I've never heard the original version (someone wanna hook me up with an mp3 or tape?), but Big Black's interpretation stands quite well on its own.
One-sided 7" given away to Forced Exposure subscribers with issue 9, and limited to 500 copies. The original (i.e. legit) press is the one with two African women on the front, and the words Rema Rema written on one's lip plate. Test presses had color xeroxed sleves with a side-by-side comparison of a 7 foot tall Dinka warrior and a 4 foot basketball player (I want a copy of this one, name your price). The bootleg pressing(s) have a picture of the band on the front, a topless woman singing into a microphone on the back, and two bonus tracks (also after this one). I'm pretty sure it's been booted multiple times, so if you have one with a different cover email me with the details and I'll update my page.
This is one of the rarer Big Black items, so if you're after an original be prepared to wait a long time for one to show up and then fork out a stupid amount of money once it does. For most folks the bootleg would be a better value, since it's about 1/10 the price of the original and has two bonus tracks.
